Toilet Paper Bandit Busted
Despite unique disguise, Nebraskan nabbed for robbery
MAY 10--Nebraska's Toilet Paper Bandit is under wraps. Joshua Nelson, 29, was arrested Saturday night and charged with the armed robbery last month of a Lincoln convenience store--a heist during which Nelson obscured his face in a ribbon of toilet paper.
Nelson, pictured in the mug shot at left, "admitted in a recorded and Mirandized interview that he was responsible for the robbery," according to a probable cause affidavit prepared by a Lincoln Police Department investigator.
As seen below, several surveillance cameras captured the crime in progress. Cops began zeroing in on Nelson a week after the April 24 robbery, when a man who lives near the convenience store reported finding a discarded knife, "several rolls of coins similar to those taken in the robbery," and a prescription bottle bearing Nelson's name. Additionally, a police informant reported that Nelson told him that he had robbed Kabredlo's, the Lincoln store. (2 pages)
