On the eve of the 1969 Apollo XI launch, President Richard Nixon's staff briefly considered commissioning the moon shot "The John F.Kennedy," according to these White House memos.
But while this proposal (forwarded by Bill Moyers, the ex-LBJ aide then working as publisher of Newsday) was supported by some Nixon aides, the idea was shot down, rather harshly, by two of the president's men -- Bob Haldeman and John Ehrlichman. (6 pages)
