Man Charged With Threatening Kobe Accuser, Prosecutor

FEBRUARY 27--A California dimwit was arrested yesterday on charges ofthreatening to kill both the woman who has accused Kobe Bryant of rape andthe Colorado prosecutor handling the case. Cedric Augustine, 37, was namedin the below federal indictment charging him with 26 felonies, includingattempted extortion and making interstate threats. Augustine allegedly leftphone messages for Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert warningthat, "If anything happen to Kobe Bryant...we gonna shoot your ass." Inother messages, Augustine--who at times said he was affiliated with theMexican Mafia--claimed to have the victim's address and warned that thewoman and her family would be murdered. The indictment, filed in U.S.District Court in Colorado, includes transcriptions of Augustine's numerousthreatening message as well as a letter sent to Hurlbert last September. (17pages)
