MAY 16--A Florida police officer has resigned because of allegations that he allowed a pair of teenagers to avoid arrest by doing topless jumping jacks. On April 29, Officer Patrick Shields (photo right) discovered the partially clothed couple making out in a car parked on a dirt road in Pensacola, according to the below police internal affairs report. But instead of making an arrest or issuing a warning, Shields, 31, permitted the 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend, 19, to dodge trouble by removing their shirts and performing the unorthodox calisthenics while he watched. The teens, whose names have been redacted by Pensacola cops, subsequently reported the creepy incident to police brass. Shields, who declined to take a lie detector test about the incident, resigned on Wednesday, though he remains the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation. (5 pages)
