89-Year-Old Woman Jailed For Refusing To Clean Up Her Decrepit, Debris-Strewn Georgia Property

Meet Charlene Coburn.

The 89-year-old Georgia woman is serving a 30-day jail term for ignoring court orders to clean up debris on her ramshackle property in rural Hall County.

Coburn, pictured in the mug shot at right, has long rebuffed county efforts to fix buildings on her property that have fallen into disrepair. When Coburn failed to remedy a variety of code violations, a judge ordered her jailing.

The octogenarian, whose property has long drawn the ire of neighbors, was locked up last Thursday. Due to good behavior behind bars, Coburn is scheduled to be released next week.

While incarcerated, she has, ironically, worked as a “house person” responsible for “housekeeping and maintenance tasks around the facility,” according a Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.
