No, You Should Not Repeatedly Call 911 To Get The Phone Number For The Local Republican Headquarters

Iowan Vernon William Nerad, 82, last night needed the phone number for the local Republican party office near his Iowa home.

So he, of course, called 911. Over and over again.

Acting on a complaint from an emergency dispatcher, an Iowa City cop went to Nerad's residence, where he found the tipsy pensioner with "a mixed drink with vodka in it," according to a criminal complaint.

Nerad, who copped to making three 911 calls, was advised that securing the number for the GOP headquarters was a non-emergency matter.

The octogenarian was charged with a misdemeanor count of misusing the police emergency system. He is scheduled for a December 11 court appearance.
