NYPD Identifies Suspect In Brutal Eatery Attack
Hulking attacker clobbered victims with chair
MAY 19--Police have identified the man seen bashing two victims over the head with a chair inside a New York City restaurant, a brutal assault that was videotaped by a witness.
According to cops, the attacker is Bayna El-Amin, a 41-year-old convicted felon whom investigators have been hunting since the May 5 incident at Dallas BBQ, an eatery in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.
NYPD officials today named the hulking suspect--El-Amin is 6’ 6” and 325 pounds--because they believe he has fled New York and they are seeking the public’s help in determining his whereabouts.
According to witnesses, El-Amin directed anti-gay slurs at two men with whom he tussled inside the restaurant. While other patrons yelled “Stop!,” El-Amin picked up a wooden chair and struck Jonathan Snipes, 32, and Ethan York-Adams, 25.
El-Amin left the restaurant after attacking the couple from behind.
NYPD brass today described El-Amin as a career criminal whose rap sheet includes 18 arrests, including collars for assault, narcotics possession, credit card fraud, shoplifting, and possession of stolen property.
The above mug shot of El-Amin was taken in connection with a Georgia state prison sentence he served for a felony forgery conviction.
