Man Charged In "Bombs To Al-Qaeda" Plot

MAY 23--A 68-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested last week and charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to al-Qaeda. According to the below criminal complaint filed in Texas federal court, Ronald Grecula was taken into custody in Houston after undercover FBI agents recorded conversations he had with a confidential source and later undercover officers agreeing to build a bomb. When the agents, claiming to have connections to al-Qaeda, explained they intended to target Americans with the bomb, Grecula told them, "Well, of course I don't like how ya'll are killing Americans, but AMERICA has asked for it." In conversations with FBI agents recorded between April and last Friday, Grecula said he saw himself as a modern-day version of the gladiator Spartacus since "He formed an army and he fought against Rome." If found guilty, Grecula, who had his initial court appearance today, could spend the next 15 years in prison. (14 pages)
