OCTOBER 2--The woman who has accused Kobe Bryant of rape will not be forced to testify at next week's preliminary hearing, a Colorado judge ruled today. In addition, Eagle County District Court Judge Frederick Gannett ordered the October 9 hearing to remain open to the public, though he reserved the right to close a portion, or all, of the hearing following a meeting with opposing counsel in his chambers next Thursday morning. In his decision, which you'll find below, Gannett also denied a defense request for copies of the alleged victim's medical records. (15 pages)
