In a jolting and ghoulish reminder of the September 11 attacks, coffee cups and sandwich bags bearing the logo of a delicatessen once located on the World Trade Center concourse are now being used by street vendors and a Manhattan bakery. The cups and paper bags, one of which is pictured below, advertise the Fine & Schapiro delicatessen, a regular breakfast and lunch stop for many workers in the Twin Towers complex. The items each carry the destroyed eatery's address and phone number--World Trade Center Concourse 775-7600. Since many Manhattan restaurants and food vendors rely on similar wholesalers for supplies, it seems a safe bet that a distributor decided that it was time to unload the surplus Fine & Schapiro material. The bags are being used by Moishe's, an East Village kosher bakery, while the coffee cups have recently begun appearing on vendor carts in midtown, according to our friends at gawker.com. Fine & Schapiro was one of the first new retailers to open in the concourse following the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993. Included in the September 11 attack's nearly 3000 victims was Juan Ortega Campos, a 32-year-old Mexican immigrant who worked as a Fine & Schapiro deliveryman. (1 page)
