English soccer legend Wayne Rooney was arrested in December 2018 at a Washington, D.C. airport on a public intoxication charge. Rooney, who played the prior season for DC United in the U.S.-based Major League Soccer, “had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage about his person, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet,” when collared at Dulles Airport, according to police.
