Sleepy Burglar

FEBRUARY 18--An accused auto burglar told Louisiana cops that he was sleepwalking when he entered a parked pickup late Wednesday evening, according to an arrest affidavit.

Responding to a call about a black male “pulling on car door handles” in the parking lot of a Monroe apartment complex, police spotted Christopher Samuel, 22, walking away from the lot.

A witness told officers he observed Samuel trying to enter multiple vehicles before he was able to get into a 1994 Chevrolet truck.

When cops confronted Samuel, seen at right, he reportedly admitted entering the pickup, but said he did so “because he was sleepwalking.” Despite that explanation, Samuel was arrested and booked early Thursday into the local jail.

If convicted of a felony burglary count, Samuel could face a maximum of 12 years in prison.

While the court filing does not indicate where Samuel purportedly had been snoozing when he began sleepwalking, his home address is more than three miles away from the spot where he was apprehended. (1 page)
