Felony Charge Over Dipping Sauce Dispute
Woman, 31, in "hostile" altercation at Raising Cane's
DECEMBER 3--Imagine catching a felony charge over Raising Cane’s dipping sauce.
That is what investigators say transpired Friday afternoon in Florida, where a 31-year-old woman was arrested for strong arm robbery after she became “hostile both verbally and physically” after fast food workers failed to include eight sauces in her mobile pickup order.
According to court records, McKenzie Keeling retrieved her grub from a Raising Cane’s in Clearwater, only to later discover that she “was missing 8 packs of Cane’s sauce.”
Keeling, seen at right, returned to the restaurant and spoke to a female manager, who provided Keeling with the dipping sauce. However, the manager, Tatyana Herbert, declined Keeling’s request that she be provided with extra sauces in return for “wasting her time and gas.”
After her sauce bid was refused, Keeling became “hostile both verbally and physically” and began yelling in the eatery, “disturbing staff and customers,” according to a felony criminal complaint.
During her alleged tirade, Keeling “shot out her right hand with force” and struck Herbert in the leg, cops charge. She then allegedly tried to tear off the victim’s keys and Cane’s ID from a lanyard attached to Herbert's belt.
“The victim was in fear,” cops reported, adding that the sauce imbroglio was witnessed by two Raising Cane’s employees and “captured on CCTV footage.”
Keeling was arrested and booked into the county jail, from which she was released Saturday on $2500 bond. Her lawyer yesterday entered a not guilty plea on her behalf. Keeling’s address is listed in court records as the waterfront Clearwater home her parents purchased in 2020 for $1.2 million.
Keeling’s residence is about 10 miles from the Raising Cane’s outlet (pictured below) where she was collared. The restaurant chain, with more than 800 U.S. franchises, is known for its chicken fingers and “One Love” slogan. An extra 1.5 ounce container of Cane’s dipping sauce (190 calories) costs 39 cents.
