Fun Ends, Felonies Follow For Minnesotan
Cops: Vacationer busted after building break-in
APRIL 19--“It’s a fun time to be drunk and to have a fire extinguisher.”
That is what Jordan Mulcahy, a 35-year-old Minnesota resident, said following his arrest early Monday for allegedly burglarizing a Florida office building and stealing alcohol and a fire extinguisher.
Police say the vacationing Mulcahy broke a window and entered the Clearwater property, which was not open to the public. When a cleaning crew member confronted him, cops say, Mulcahy said, “I’m leaving” and walked out the property’s front door.
Mulcahy exited with a “trash bag of alcohol bottles in his right hand and a fire extinguisher in his left hand,” according to a criminal complaint which notes that the defendant showed an “indication of alcohol influence.”
Seen above, Mulcahy was arrested around 12:30 AM and charged with burglary and grand theft, both felonies, and petty theft, a misdemeanor. He was booked into the county jail, where he is locked up in lieu of $20,250 bond. Mulcahy is also being held on a felony arrest warrant for failing to show earlier this month at a Minnesota court hearing in connection with his recent arrest for allegedly stealing a pair of laptops from a Best Buy store.
After being read his rights Monday, Mulcahy, police allege, reportedly made incriminating statements, including a request that he only be charged with the lesser crime of vandalism. He also declared, “It’s a fun time to be drunk and to have a fire extinguisher,” according to the complaint.
The document does not indicate what plans Mulcahy had for the fire extinguisher, but they likely would have added to a rap sheet that already includes convictions for assault; property damage; fleeing police; theft; forgery; fraud; DWI; false imprisonment; making terroristic threats; assaulting a peace officer; escape from custody; robbery; domestic abuse; and disorderly conduct.
