Cops: Cinnamon Roll Robber Is Now On Ice
Suspect wore Hostess pastry box on hand
FEBRUARY 28--A Nebraska man walked into a Kwik Shop convenience store early yesterday and demanded money. He had a Hostess Cinnamon Rolls box on his right hand.
Fearing that the container concealed a handgun--and not individually wrapped frosted pastries--the female clerk handed over cash, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
Cops responding to the incident identified Izaiah Bartu, a 24-year-old Lincoln resident, as a possible suspect. While speaking with officers, Bartu, seen at right, attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly detained.
A subsequent search of Bartu turned up 4.1 grams of methamphetamine, a silver handgun, and an undisclosed amount of cash, cops report. He was arrested on multiple felony counts, including robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.
Bartu is locked up in advance of his scheduled arraignment this afternoon for the heist at the Kwik Shop (pictured below).
Bartu, who has a gun tattooed on his right forearm, previously served more than two years in state prison for a 2021 assault conviction. He was arrested in April 2020 for striking a liquor store employee in the head with a bottle of Jack Daniel’s during a robbery which netted him (and his two female accomplices) two bottles of booze.
