Son of Sam's Prison Blog

JUNE 11--Aided by a San Diego church, "Son of Sam" killer David Berkowitz is publishing an online journal chronicling his life in a New York prison and offering his views on subjects like the September 11 attacks, gay marriage, and the Columbine shootings. The "Official Home Page of David Berkowitz" is maintained by the House Upon the Rock Christian Church, which notes that the born-again serial killer "is NOT trying to use this site to win anyone's sympathy, make money, or to try to convince people he deserves to be paroled." Instead, the site shows that only Jesus "can change a serial killer and an avowed Satanist into a lover of people and a lover of God." Berkowitz's site contains scans of hundreds of pages of typewritten letters--dating to 1998--detailing his life in the can, from his interaction with fellow inmates to his immersion in Christian prayer and Bible study groups. Since nobody should have to read all of Berkowitz's musings (which were first reported in today's New York Daily News) we've pulled out an assortment of letters from his prison blog. On the following pages, you'll find Berkowitz reflections on 9/11; the fifth anniversary of Columbine; Saddam Hussein's capture; the Beltway snipers; blaring hip-hop music; the homosexual lifestyle; bothersome mosquitoes; and street gangs.
