A School Boss Most Foul

NOVEMBER 17--Meet Danny Edward Doyen. Good news: The Texas school superintendent was arrested yesterday, but it wasn't for sleeping with a student. Bad news: Doyen allegedly placed a digital video camera--concealed inside what appeared to be an air freshener--in a women's bathroom. According to a criminal complaint, a copy of which you'll find here, Doyen, 46, admitted placing the hidden camera in the ladies loo in a bid to 'obtain nude photos of female employees' of the Bruceville-Eddy Independent School District. Doyen, a married father of four has headed the district, located near Waco, since 2002. Doyen, who purchased the $299 camera with a district credit card, was charged with a felony for the secret recording and jailed in lieu of a court hearing today. Doyen's downfall was precipitated by a suspicious district clerk who flagged his submission of an invoice for a surveillance camera. After a bit of online sleuthing, the clerk determined the exact nature of the item and, according to investigators, recalled that Doyen had previously mentioned that the district office could use air fresheners in the men's bathroom and a hallway. The clerk found the hidden camera in the women's bathroom, where it was sitting on a shelf pointed at the toilet three feet away. The surveillance device was later found in Doyen's office when probers executed a search warrant. (3 pages)
