Bessette Kennedy's "Ex" In DUI Bust

JULY 19--Michael Bergin, the model/actor whose controversial book about his supposed affair with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy made bestseller lists this spring, was arrested Friday night and charged with felony drunk driving after allegedly plowing his SUV into a woman roller skating across a West Hollywood street. The 35-year-old Bergin's bust came on the fifth anniversary of the plane crash that killed Bessette Kennedy and husband John F. Kennedy Jr. Bergin spent about 11 hours in custody before being released from a Los Angeles lockup on $50,000 bail, according to the below L.A. Sheriff's Department record. According to a TSG source, after Bergin refused a sobriety test, he was handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser (his car, with a fresh dent on its hood, was later towed). The injured woman, Jenni Armstrong, a competitive in-line speed skater who was out with a recreational group called Friday Night Skate, suffered a broken left tibia in the accident. Armstrong, 39, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she is expected to undergo surgery on her knee. According to a fellow skater, Armstrong flew about 15 feet before nearly landing on a cop car parked nearby. (1 page)
