Singer R. Kelly was arrested this morning (1/22) in Miami on a warrant charging him with 12 counts of possession of child pornography.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's office, a search of the 36-year-old performer's Davenport, Florida home turned up 12 digital images--recovered from Kelly's camera equipment--that depicted "sexual activity by a female who was under 18 years of age." Several images also depicted the R&B star "involved in sexual conduct with the female minor."
The Florida search was conducted in June 2002 when Kelly was arrested in his Sunshine State home pursuant to an arrest warrant issued in Chicago. Cook County, Illinois prosecutors have charged Kelly with 21 counts of child pornography in connection with his videotaping of a variety of sex acts with a minor girl in his Chicago home. Copies of that videotape--which was anonymously sent last year to the Chicago Sun-Times--have turned up on street corners nationwide.
Kelly, whose first name is Robert, faces up to 60 years in prison on the Florida charges and 15 years on the Chicago counts.
