Anne Hathaway Booty Re-Call
Actress surrenders lavish gifts from convicted ex-boyfriend swindler
SEPTEMBER 10--With Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend pleading guilty today to a sprawling financial swindle, federal prosecutors detailed the valuable jewelry that the scam artist gave the actress--and which the FBI recently "recovered" from her.
Included in the criminal information to which Raffaello Follieri, 30, pleaded guilty were forfeiture provisions addressing the gifts to Hathaway, other jewelry seized from Follieri's Fifth Avenue apartment, and a few items found in a Bronx storage unit.
As seen in this excerpt from the U.S. District Court filing, federal investigators listed 12 items that were "recovered in or about August 2008 from an individual who received them" from Follieri. As with the original June 24 criminal complaint filed against Follieri, the court information does not mention Hathaway, 25, by name, instead referring to her as Follieri's "girlfriend" or "girlfriend at the time."
Included in the recovered jewelry--for which the government has not placed a value--were two Rolex watches, rings, necklaces, and bracelets.
Follieri, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy, fraud, and money laundering counts, is scheduled to be sentenced October 3 and is expected to receive about five years in prison. (2 pages)
