Beginning in 1947, the U.S. Air Force tracked UFO sightings nationwide. The study, code named Project Blue Book, was terminated in December 1969 when the Nixon administration concluded that, despite what agents Scully and Mulder now claim, we are alone. Here's a USAF synopsis of Project Blue Book that we got from the FBI via a Freedom of Information request. While we've never encountered an alien life form (except for Richard Simmons), The Smoking Gun is still intrigued by those 1952 statistics. (5 pages)
