Attention Moms: Don't Get Caught Cheering On Your Kid In A YouTube Video Fight

A Florida mother who stood on the sidelines cheering on her daughter during a planned high school fight between the teen and another girl was arrested today for child abuse.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office affidavit, April Newcomb, 39, can be seen on multiple YouTube videos “encouraging” her daughter “to physically fight” with the other girl. The videos, one of which can be viewed below, were filmed by attendees of the fight, which occurred in a vacant field near Palmetto High School.

As seen in this still, it appears most teens present came prepared to record the fisticuffs. 

When questioned by a cop, Newcomb, pictured in the mug shot at right, claimed that she only attended the bout between the two 16-year-old combatants in order “to make sure nothing got out of hand.” She also wanted to look out for her daughter’s health since the teen had “sustained a skull fracture from a previous incident approximately two years ago.”

"Of course we were both wrong and I understand that," Newcomb said, adding, "I understand where ya’ll are coming from.”  

As her daughter is being throttled by a larger girl, Newcomb can be heard at one point yelling to her child, “Don’t fucking stop.” Later in the video, apparently serving as her offspring’s corner man, Newcomb advises, “Punch her in the fucking body.”

Newcomb can also be seen at the clip’s outset, arriving with her daughter’s entourage as the teen's opponent bounced about in preparation for the fight.

Isn't it odd how so many people judge these Bible thumping Republicans for their lack of tolerance apparently generally ignorance, when with comments like the above, those of other political view points seem to make the same mistake. To quote from the seemingly very abhored Bible "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Not all Republicans are backwater hicks with base levels of intellegence. Just like not all Democrats are commune hippies who never shower and are perpetually stoned.

reading comprehension is not your strong point - the judgement referred to is not right or wrong, good or bad - it's condemnation of another we aren't allowed to do/or capable of doing.

I agree with you on many of these points, but the sad truth is that the Republican Party has a tendency to allow the Christian ideologues to influence their stand on key issues; they provide a national platform for people with some very strange ideas. Consider Sarah Palin. Here is a woman who claims she is qualified to be president, yet thinks the world was magically created a few thousand years ago and that dinosaurs co-existed with humans! She would have these ideas taught in public schools as an "alternative" to evolutionary science. She, like other powerful right-wing Christians, think the First Amendment should not apply to Muslims and other religions. This is why I cannot vote Republican.

hey mental midget - do you hoenstly think there are no knuckleheaded Dems running around claiming to be Christian? The difference is the conservatives try to live it and have failures like we all do, the libs ignore the tenents and just claim the title when politically convenient (like election time, time of crisis) - they twist God's words to support such obviously sinful actions like taking from one to give to another, abortion etc.

You, on the other hand, are more intelligent. You think the universe magically exploded out of nothing one day. Then it began to form together over a long period of time into a very complex system all by itself. This system over trillions of years finally produced individuals that can think for themselves. This allows you to smear people you don't agree with.

it used to be called "The theory of evolution" but then some folks that felt it would be more comfortable to live whatever way you want pretending there are no consequences and so pronounced it fact eventhough there are huge holes, contradictions and inconsistencies in it which they feel are easier to have faith in. Apparently "scientific" ignorance ir far superior to "religious" ignorance.

Ummm. I hate to spoil Your rant, Sixkiller, but Bnicleve was responding to someone else who politicized this activity, blaming "bible thumping" Republicans for it. Look one post below (and just 42 minutes prior to Bnicleve's post). I can tell that reading comprehension probably isn't Your strong suit, much as grammar and the rules for capilization aren't. Unless You consider Bnicleve to be the second coming, it's more than a little odd that You capitalized "You" and "Your" every single time. And what's Your gripe with tailors? Did You get charged double to add extra material to the seat and a stretchy waistband to Your Toughskins?
