Illinois Jail Sued Over Soggy Cookies

JANUARY 7--Vexed by 'distasteful and disgusting' prison grub, the three gentleman pictured in these mug shots have filed a $2 million lawsuit against an Illinois sheriff whom they allege is neglecting their nutritional needs.

In a December 31 Kane County Circuit Court complaint, the inmates complain about cold and 'not up to par' meals prepared by Aramark Food Service, which has contracts with nearly 500 North American correctional facilities. For instance, the inmates charge, 'cookies and cakes are served soggy due to wet and cracked trays.' The lawsuit against Sheriff Pat Perez and Aramark can be found here.

The plaintiffs are, left to right, Michael Nance, Devalius McDonald, and Deandre Clemons. Nance, 56, is being held on a burglary charge. McDonald, 53, is facing a criminal sexual assault rap. Clemons, at 18 the youngest member of the litigation team, is jailed on $111,500 bail for drug possession and resisting arrest counts. (2 pages)
