Naomi Campbell In Assault Plea

JANUARY 16--Naomi Campbell, who today pleaded guilty to assaulting a maid with a cell phone, is facing a lawsuit brought by the former employee, who claims the supermodel not only injured her with a flying BlackBerry, but then libeled her in a false statement to the press. Ana Scolavino charges that she was 'seriously injured' when Campbell, 36, hit her in the head with the phone last March during a confrontation in the model's Park Avenue condominium. She also alleges that, following the incident, Campbell defamed her in a statement that described Scolavino, 39, as a thieving, erratic employee bent on extorting money from her. A copy of Scolavino's January 12 lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court, can be found below. At the time, Campbell claimed that she did not injure Scolavino, adding that the Brooklyn woman was 'sadly mistaken if she thinks she can extract money from me by concocting lies by recycling old stories. I have asked my lawyer to look into filing both theft and extortion charges against her.' That was then, this is now: Campbell copped today to a misdemeanor assault rap during an appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court. She was sentenced to five days community service and ordered to attend anger management classes. Campbell was also ordered to pay Scolavino's medical bills. (6 pages)
