Jason Mewes Sued Over "Junkumentary"

JUNE 30--Looks like Jason Mewes, the stoner-star of all those Kevin Smith films, is having second thoughts about allowing a film crew to document his heroin addiction and struggle to get clean. According to the producer of "Rock Bottom," the Mewes junkumentary, the 29-year-old star of "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" is no longer cooperating and disputes the filmmaker's right to lense his life story. According to the below Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit filed against Mewes by the documentary's producer, in mid-March the actor signed contracts for his life story and his personal management. But with the slacker actor now disavowing those agreements, the producer is seeking a judicial declaration affirming its legal right to "produce and exploit" the Mewes story. While Mewes has yet to respond to the lawsuit, we'd guess his defense will go something like this: "I signed those papers when I was STRUNG OUT ON HEROIN!" On April 1, three weeks after Mewes signed the contracts, he appeared in a New Jersey courthouse to plead guilty to charges that he violated terms of a probation sentence imposed following his February 2000 conviction for felony heroin possession. A Monmouth County judge ordered Mewes into a drug rehab program and told the actor that he could not leave the state until he completed treatment, which began April 7 and lasts between 4-6 months.
