Another New Orleanian seeks trademark dibs for hurricane cocktail
View Document
OCTOBER 3--Another ghoulish New Orleans entrepreneur is seeking to trademark the word 'Katrina' so that he can slap it on a 'prepared alcoholic cocktail.' On September 21, Richard Sackett filed the below application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office application. Sackett, a 58-year-old advertising executive, formally sought the Katrina TM one day after TSG first reported that two Louisiana lawyers were seeking to cash in on the deadly hurricane by trademarking 'Katrina' for booze products. The hurricane flooded Sackett's Frankfort Street home, forcing him to relocate to Fort Lauderdale, where he is now operating his ad firm, which caters to personal injury lawyers. (4 pages)
