What's The Frequency, Brokaw?
Man charged after blitzing NBC anchor with threatening e-mail
AUGUST 6--A New York man has been charged with criminal harassment for allegedly bombarding Tom Brokaw with thousands of e-mails, some of which threatened the NBC anchorman. According to Staten Island prosecutors, Steven Koplan, 46, sent about 3500 messages to Brokaw during a two-month period late last year. Koplan's barrage of e-mail, which he sent "anonymously and otherwise" to an MSNBC address, was done with an intent to "harass, annoy, threaten and alarm" Brokaw, according to investigators. Koplan, who was charged earlier this year with a single misdemeanor count of aggravated harassment for his Brokaw e-mail, is facing additional criminal charges as a result of a subsequent, broader criminal probe (which included the seizure of his computer). Koplan is scheduled to be arraigned August 11 on a 66-count indictment. (1 page)
