Chicago Cyanide Caper

A homeless man has been hit with a federal chemical weapons charge after FBI agents discovered that he had hidden jars containing cyanide in a Chicago Transit Authority underground passageway. After Joseph Konopka, 25, was arrested Saturday (3/9) for trespassing in a University of Chicago steam tunnel, cops found him carrying a vial filled with cyanide. As this FBI affidavit notes, further investigation led to his larger subterranean stash. It is unclear what Konopka, who is also wanted in Wisconsin on computer hacking charges, planned to do with the cyanide. (7 pages)
