Backcourt Decorum At The U.S. Open

AUGUST 27--The swells at the United States Tennis Association are rather picky when it comes to the "grooming and appearance standards" of the ushers, vendors, and locker room attendants now working the U.S. Open at New York's National Tennis Center. Below you'll find the USTA personnel rules provided to Open employees, who are faced with limitations on everything from eyebrows to jewelry. And they better not be deodorant-phobic. Our favorite rule involves tattoos, which can't be located on an employee's knuckles or neck (basically ruling out any ex-con seeking ball boy work). In a "The Night of the Hunter" homage, we've created an example, at right, of ink that would disqualify someone from possible employment at the Grand Slam tournament. (2 pages)
