After Fondling Ferret, Suspect Stole Weasel
Man shoved the stolen pet down his shorts
MAY 29--Police are searching for the Florida Man who stuffed a $650 ferret into the front of his shorts and smuggled the purloined weasel out of a Petland store.
The ferret heist, cops say, occurred Tuesday afternoon in Jacksonville.
Security cameras captured the male suspect as he “browsed the ferret section of the store” and “fondles the ferret for quite some time,” according to a police report. The man then shoved the ferret into his shorts and departed Petland.
As he left the business, the man--seen in the adjacent surveillance image--held “the crotch area of his shorts to support the ferret as he walks past all points of sale...without paying.”
Recognizing that the suspect was fleeing with the ferret, a Petland manager gave chase, but was unable to get the license of the man’s vehicle, which is described in the report as a “white work van” with “multiple ladders along the top.”
The ferret thief, investigators reported, has a “unique long mustache” and was wearing a blue Under Armour shirt and shorts with a “Navy” logo.
While an automated facial recognition system failed to identify the suspect, the clear surveillance images will likely result in the apprehension of the ferret bandit. (1 pages)
