Texan, 21, Caught Urinating On The Alamo, Is Arrested At Stream Of The Crime

In a move out of Ozzy Osbourne’s playbook, a 21-year-old Texas man was nabbed Saturday night for urinating on the Alamo.

According to a San Antonio Police Department report, Daniel Athens was spotted standing in a “chained off area not open to the public,” where an Alamo Ranger noticed him “making the motions of putting his penis back in his pants.” The investigator noted that there was “a puddle on the original mortar of the Shrine.”

Athens, police reported, appeared drunk, smelled of intoxicants, and was unsteady on his feet. Pictured at right, Athens was arrested for public intoxication and public urination.

As detailed by cops, urine contains salt and the Alamo’s “limestone absorbs the salt and then pushes the salt out. When the salt gets pushed out so does the face of the limestone and through this process the urine contributes to the eroding of the limestone.”

Investigators photographed the stream of the crime, since Athens, an El Paso resident, could face an additional criminal mischief rap for damaging the so-called Shrine of Texas Liberty.

Osbourne was arrested in 1982 after he was spotted urinating on a monument erected in honor of those killed during the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. The monument stood across the street from the Alamo, which was originally built as a Catholic mission (and is now a U.S. landmark).
