8/22 UPDATE: University head resigns over S&M/bondage photos, ad

AUGUST 1--While it is unclear what last week’s raid at the offices of the University of Northern Virginia yielded for federal immigration agents, a peek inside the home of the man who runs the controversial for-profit school would surely have been more interesting.

That’s because David Lee, UNVA’s chancellor and chair of its board of trustees, is so into domination and sadomasochism that he has transformed his basement into a suburban dungeon complete with bondage racks.

In fact, the 64-year-old Lee (pictured at right) and his girlfriend recently advertised online seeking “attractive submissive” women who “wish to be part of our poly family. Ideally you will consider yourself a slave or a sub with slave tendencies.”

Lee’s ad appeared on collarme.com, which describes itself as the “largest BDSM Community on the Planet.” “We enjoy almost all kinks, and are expert in most of them. But for us it is more the submission and commitment that matter.” Lee and his girlfriend (who used the handle “polyfamilyinva2”) added, “We provide a safe, sane home with a good balance of love and discipline. We are very serious about finding a permanent addition to our poly family.”

The couple’s profile included an assortment of photos showing them in a variety of, um, poses. In two pictures, Lee is placing a flame near the body of a naked woman wearing a bondage mask. In another photo, a shirtless Lee is seen flexing in a mirror. The pair noted in their collarme.com ad that, “We are in excellent health and in excellent shape.”

Another photo shows Lee’s immaculate dungeon with its polished wood floors and bondage racks. Other images from the couple’s online profile show Lee’s girlfriend attached to a wooden rack and caught in a metal spider web. Another image shows Lee’s girlfriend astride another woman, who appears to be gagged with an extension cord.

Other photos are more mundane, showing the couple at home in Santa hats and attending a family wedding.

Lee did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment about his search for a female slave or the search conducted last Thursday at the university’s Annandale, Virginia offices by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. According to a statement posted by Lee on the school’s web site, ICE investigators, executing a search and seizure warrant, removed “computer hardware, equipment, and paper documents.”

The ICE probe is examining whether UNVA, which was founded in 1998, has exploited visa loopholes to enroll foreign students (many of the school’s 2000 students come from India). Investigators are seeking to determine whether some students attended classes or just used enrollment in UNVA as a method of gaining entry to the United States. During the July 28 raid, UNVA officials were served with a notice temporarily blocking the school from enrolling any new foreign students.

Lee is scheduled to meet this morning “with all concerned UNVA students and faculty,” according to a notice on the school’s web site. (9 pages)
